Need to resize or crop an image without photoshop? A step-by-step tutorial on adjusting dimensions and locking aspect ratios securely in your browser.
How to Resize and Crop an Image Online for Free
Creating clean graphics for blogs, listings, or profiles is easy if you have the right tools. But many users think they need expensive graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop just to crop or resize a file.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to crop and resize your photos securely online using free, local browser utilities.
Step 1: Upload Your Image
Open the Resizer & Cropper tool. Drag and drop your image into the import zone.
- Because our tools run entirely client-side inside your browser sandbox, your image remains 100% private.
- There are no artificial limits or queues, and we support standard formats: JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WEBP.
Step 2: Configure Your Crop Selection
If you need to frame a specific part of your photo:
- Choose an Aspect Ratio Preset: In the sidebar options panel, select a preset like 1:1 Square (best for profiles and listings), 16:9 Widescreen (for banners and landscape displays), or Freeform to draw custom bounds.
- Adjust the Handles: Drag the cropping borders over the visual workspace. The input fields will auto-sync with the exact selection coordinates in real-time.
Step 3: Configure Output Resize Settings
Once your crop selection is defined, adjust the scaling factors:
- Set Custom Dimensions: Type the desired width or height in the Output Resize boxes.
- Lock Aspect Ratio: Check this box to auto-calculate height whenever you update the width, preventing visual stretching.
- Use the Scale Slider: Alternatively, drag the Scale Factor slider to scale the crop selection proportionally (e.g. down to 50% or 75% of the original size).
Step 4: Apply and Download
Click the Apply Resize & Crop button. You will see a simulated refining progress loader while the local HTML5 Canvas processes the pixel coordinates.
Once complete, choose your output format:
- Original Format: Preserves the original file extension.
- PNG: Perfect for lossless quality.
- JPG: Highly compressed, flat image.
- WEBP: High-efficiency modern web graphics.
Download your newly resized file instantly! The volatile browser buffers are cleared the moment you close the tab, keeping your files completely secure.
